Mocha says no plans to run for Senate unless
Presidential Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson on Friday said she was surprised that House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez announced her name as part of the PDP-Laban’s senatorial slate, saying she had no plans to run for public office.
Uson attended the oath-taking of new PDP-Laban members in Cebu City upon the invitation of Presidential Assistant for Visayas Michael Dino.
“Walang kahit anong political intention. Ang sinasabi po nila na inanunsyo raw po ni Speaker Alvarez na ako ay tatakbo bilang Senador, hindi ko po ito alam. Sa totoo lang po, ako ay nagulat sa announcement ni Speaker Alvarez, kung totoo man po na siya ay nag-announce,” she said in a text message.
She added that she did not take oath as a PDP-Laban member.
“Matagal na po niya [Alvarez] ako iniimbitahan na tumakbo bilang senador at ang sagot ko po ay wala akong planong tumakbo sa senado dahil hindi naman ako politiko,” she said.
But Uson left the door open for a Senate run, if President Rodrigo Duterte would ask her to do so.
“Kung tatakbo man po ako, ito po ay [dahil] si Pangulong Duterte na mismo ang nagpatakbo sa akin dahil ang akin lamang hangarin ay matulungan ang Duterte Administration to bring the change he promised during the election,” she added.
She wrote in her Facebook page that she was “thankful and flattered” because she was considered as a possible candidate.
Alvarez made the pronouncement at a mass oathtaking event in Cebu on Friday and confirmed the development to GMA News Online.
In a text message, Alvarez said Uson and Roque are part of the “partial list” of their party’s candidates for the senatorial race.
“Partial list lang yan,” Alvarez said when asked to confirm reports that apart from Uson and Roque, also included in the senatorial slate are Representatives Karlo Nograles (Davao City), Alfredo Benitez (Negros Occidental), Geraldine Roman (Bataan), and former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chair Francis Tolentino. —JST, GMA News
